Teak Wood

Teak (Tectona grandis) is a tropical hardwood tree species placed in the flowering plant family Lamiaceae. Tectona grandis is a large, deciduous tree that occurs in mixed hardwood forests, it has structural strength and is durable.

The government of Indonesia’s takes the teak wood seriously. Since the country’s post-colonial era began in the mid-20th century, the Indonesian government has had a corporation in place dedicated to managing one of the nation’s most valuable natural resources.

Since the middle Ages, teak wood has been prized as material in the shipbuilding industry because the wood has the unique qualities of wood that does not rot or accumulating rust even when joined with metal. Due to its high oil content, teak wood is water-repellent which also makes it resistant to insect infestation.

Indonesian local craftsman have been making teak furniture’s for centuries.

Rattan

Rattan (from the Malay rotan) is the name for roughly 600 species of old world climbing palms belonging to subfamily Calamoideae. Rattan is also known as manila, or malacca, named after the ports of shipment Manila and Malacca City, and as manau (from the Malay rotan manau, the trade name for Calamus manan canes in Southeast Asia). The climbing habit is associated with the characteristics of its flexible woody stem, derived typically from a secondary growth, makes rattan a liana rather than a true wood.
